Seismic Imaging of Mine Tunnels Using Linear Array Environmental Noise
Seismic imaging using ambient noise has been widely used to image underground structures.

Equipment used: 136 SmartSolo node seismometers

Project Overview

Seismic imaging using ambient noise has been widely used to image underground structures. Using ambient noise recorded by seismic arrays, the spatial autocorrelation (SPAC) method can image subsurface velocity structures at different scales.

Seismic Imaging of Mine Tunnels Using Linear Array Environmental Noise

In this study, to detect abandoned mine tunnels that are expected to have low-velocity anomalies, we apply both the SPAC method and the autocorrelation method along the surface of a linear array of tunnels. 136 SmartSolo node seismometers deployed three linear array survey lines with station spacings of 1.5m and 5m respectively, and continuously recorded.
